TESTIMONIALS

I have a wife with bulimia and it was getting to the point where I couldn't take it any more. She needed bulimia treatment badly, but I didn't know where to turn. Through the internet I came across your site and sent my wife for bulimia treatment at your center.

Whoever she first spoke with made her feel so comfortable, she even became excited about the possibility of not having to binge and purge any more. The change in her is amazing. I know she will always be recovering, but I am proud to say she is the most courageous person I know. Thank you for all of your help.

-- Preston V., Nashua, New Hampshire

I needed to find an eating disorder clinic so badly. I used to eat compulsively and had swung over completely to purging and laxatives. I felt so bad about myself, the shame and guilt was just killing me. I had been to an eating disorder clinic before, but they really did not address my mood swings, that I have since understood them to be a bipolar disorder.

Your staff kept telling me that my eating behavior was a symptom of other problems. Well even though I didn't believe them they turned out to be right. I don't use laxatives, I have even learned to exercise moderately. Thank you so much. By the way, it has been ten months since I last purged.

Well Shelly, I told you I would write when I had one year in recovery and here I am. Who would have guessed. I have so much gratitude for you taking your time and referring me to a great facility. I knew from the moment I walked in there that I was in the right place. The next time I come by it will be to visit, not as a patient. You are absolutely the greatest.

The Difference Between a Weight Loss Center and Eating Disorder Treatment

Weight loss is a billion-dollar industry in the United States, and a weight loss center can practically be found on every corner in every city. These centers focus on helping members lose weight through various means – food subscriptions, diet pills, gym memberships or a combination of methods. Sadly, while they may mean well, they are rarely effective for most people and never effective for those with eating disorders.

This is because someone living with an eating disorder has complex reasons for having the disorder in the first place. They are not resolved by simply eating a pre-packaged meal or through monthly weigh-in sessions. True eating disorder recovery can only be accomplished through dedicated treatment in a residential center designed to provide intensive treatment for anorexia, bulimia, binge eating or other eating disorders.

The Dangers of Weight Loss Centers

Those who suffer from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder or <link>compulsive overeating disorder usually have major body image issues, and may be tempted to join a weight loss center to help them meet their weight loss goals. The danger lies in the fact that these goals are unrealistic, often unhealthy and never attainable. No amount of weight loss will make up for the fact that their real problem lies in their subconscious.

The time these individuals spend at their weight loss centers is doing nothing to help them heal the emotional wounds that are responsible for their condition. In addition, they aren’t helping the individual learn proper eating habits either. And since eating disorders are progressive diseases, if they are left untreated, the individual’s health will continue to decline to the point that the resulting health complications could prove fatal.

Avoid Weight Loss Centers if You Have an Eating Disorder

If you have an eating disorder, you need to be admitted into a treatment program designed to provide you with the education and care you need to overcome it. A quality eating disorder treatment center can help you heal not just your body, but your mind and spirit as well.

We cannot state it enough – weight loss centers are not designed to help people with eating disorders.

“Real” eating disorder treatment focuses on self-esteem issues, inner conflicts, emotional scars and various mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and many others. Only by resolving these powerful issues can true recovery occur.

Weight loss centers are valuable for a certain section of the population, primarily those who need to lose weight but who do not have an eating disorder. If you are unsure whether you have an eating disorder or not, just call our toll-free, 24-hour helpline at 1-800-941-5313 today. One of our experienced counselors will give you a free assessment to help you discover what type of treatment would best serve your needs. All calls are confidential, so please – call now!
