TESTIMONIALS

I have a wife with bulimia and it was getting to the point where I couldn't take it any more. She needed bulimia treatment badly, but I didn't know where to turn. Through the internet I came across your site and sent my wife for bulimia treatment at your center.

Whoever she first spoke with made her feel so comfortable, she even became excited about the possibility of not having to binge and purge any more. The change in her is amazing. I know she will always be recovering, but I am proud to say she is the most courageous person I know. Thank you for all of your help.

-- Preston V., Nashua, New Hampshire

I needed to find an eating disorder clinic so badly. I used to eat compulsively and had swung over completely to purging and laxatives. I felt so bad about myself, the shame and guilt was just killing me. I had been to an eating disorder clinic before, but they really did not address my mood swings, that I have since understood them to be a bipolar disorder.

Your staff kept telling me that my eating behavior was a symptom of other problems. Well even though I didn't believe them they turned out to be right. I don't use laxatives, I have even learned to exercise moderately. Thank you so much. By the way, it has been ten months since I last purged.

Well Shelly, I told you I would write when I had one year in recovery and here I am. Who would have guessed. I have so much gratitude for you taking your time and referring me to a great facility. I knew from the moment I walked in there that I was in the right place. The next time I come by it will be to visit, not as a patient. You are absolutely the greatest.

Depression Treatment: When to Seek Help

The truth is, everyone feels sad or lonely sometimes, so how can you tell if you need to seek depression treatment?

Do you:

  • Feel sad or emotionally empty most of the day, every day?
  • Experience unexplained crying spells?
  • Have feelings of guilt or worthlessness?
  • Deal with unexplained aches and pains?
  • Feel as if you don’t have the energy to participate in your favorite activities, or find they no longer bring you the satisfaction they once did?
  • Experience significant changes in your sleeping and eating patterns?
  • Feel pessimistic or indifferent?
  • Have recurring thoughts of death or suicide?

If you experience the feelings listed above, you may be suffering from depression, a real and serious disease that disrupts lives, relationships, and careers. Depression treatment is available and should be sought immediately.

Understanding Depression and its Causes

The factors which contribute to depression can be genetic, environmental, biochemical, or psychological. Whatever the cause, the result is an imbalance of chemical compounds in the brain. These chemicals, or “neurotransmitters,” send messages between the nerves, helping them communicate signals from the outside world to the processing center of the brain. When the nerves cannot communicate effectively, improper messages may be received, resulting in the most common symptoms of depression:  sadness and lack of interest.

Depression Treatment

If you think you may be suffering from depression, speak with your doctor. Only a physician can diagnose depression and suggest the best treatment options, depending upon the severity of your depression.

Medically Based Depression Treatment

In some cases a doctor may recommend medication as a depression treatment. Only your doctor can decide which medication is right for you. During depression treatment many different drugs may be tried, before finding the best one. In addition dosage adjustments may occur during your depression treatment to obtain the best results.

Depression Treatment & Talk Therapy

Also called psychotherapy, talk therapy can be used alone or in conjunction with other depression treatments. Ask your doctor to recommend a therapist who can help you to learn coping skills and guide you as you attempt to change your emotional patterns and behavioral responses.

Support groups, both those that meet in person and those online, can be beneficial during depression treatment. Meeting others coping with the same problems may help you feel less alone. Support group members share their experiences and ideas about depression treatment while offering friendship, moral support, and practical suggestions that can help you increase the effectiveness of your depression treatment.

Depression treatment is available and with patience, persistence, and communication it is often successful.
